My Nights Your Days

My Nights, Your Days

Acrylic on wood box
27 x 13.5 x 5 in.

In Peru, we celebrate the Day of the Dead differently than they do in Mexico. They visit the cemetery and put crowns of flowers on each tomb, celebrating with chicha (a Peruvian drink), food, and music. On the box, a cemetery is shown on a hill, which is common in Peru—the Apu is a sacred mountain, or even a mountain spirit, and those who are buried are believed to be protected in the Apu. A husband goes to the Apu to visit his beloved wife, who is already among the stars
